Dear President Trump

Loving My Enemy

Dear President Trump. You had me going for a while. I was getting all upset about ‘Fake News’ and lying cheating politicians and greedy political parties and self-serving religious leaders. So, I took a deep breath… and remembered the time my father came home one night with the newspaper he had just help publish. He threw it on the table and said, “Read this…. When you’re done we can talk about the real news that never gets printed.” So my enemy, I remembered the lesson that even truth seeking newspeople, ethical politicians, and sincere evangelists get it wrong sometime. For whatever reasons they broadcast “Fake News.” Sometimes intentionally… often out of mistake or ignorance or incomplete information. It happens all the time. So, when you tweet “Fake News” and we get all in a dither, I can feel myself being led around by that partisan ring in my nose. Jesus didn’t tell us to go out and challenge fake news. He tells us to be the “Good News”. I truly am tired of your complaints, tirades and tantrums about “Fake News.” As someone who is sincerely trying to love you, I promise to try to judge you by your actions…(and yes, I know, sometimes words are actions). My guides in my judgements are common Christian guidelines… the ten commandments… the great commandment… the calls to do justice, love mercy and walk humbly with God… to feed the poor, give drink to the thirsty, welcome the stranger, clothe the naked, care for the sick and visit those in prison. Fake News has always been with us. I pray all our actions reflect the Good News of the God we claim to serve. Our actions speak louder than Our words. How ya doin? 041118
