Dear President Trump. I am so very sorry for you and the widow of Sgt. La David T. Johnson when you left her in tears because of your ‘insensitivity.’ General Kelly, in defense of your call, appeared to confirm your comment, “he knew what he signed up for.” What a mess. In military slang, a real SNAFU. I pray you learn that grieving families do not need to be told what is obvious to you. Even gung ho General George S. Patton knew No bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making some other poor dumb bastard die for his country. Patton knew because he served. Like you, I never served in the military. I do not pretend to know what goes through the minds of men and women in military service. I pray you take the time and energy to learn. I pray your ability to comfort bereaved families improves with your sensitivity and compassion towards people you apparently cannot identify with. I pray there are few occasions when you will have to make these calls… but I fear it is only the beginning.
